FlinSafe is the University’s online system for staff, students and others to report work-related incidents, accidents, hear misses and workplace hazards.

What to do when an accident, incident occurs.
1. Immediate response
Take appropriate immediate action to ensure there is no danger to yourself or any other persons and to minimise the risk of further injury or damage.
Determine if emergency services are required, and if so, call 000.
Seek First Aid treatment (Note - you can call Security on 8201 2880) or seek treatment from any of the following:
- First Aid;
- University Health, Counselling and Disability Services;
- Your own doctor;
- Flinders Medical Centre;
- Any other hospital.
You have the right to choose where you go for medical treatment. If the injury is work related then Staff are advised to inform your treating doctor that the injury is a result of work and obtain a Workers' Compensation Medical Certificate.
For serious incidents, ensure that the area is not be disturbed, where possible, other than to render assistance and make the area safe to prevent a further incident (see Notifiable incident).
2. Reporting of Accident, Incidents or Near Miss
Let your manager know
You must report (verbally or by email) the accident, incident or near miss to your supervisor, manager, topic coordinator or other relevant University staff as soon as possible after the accident, incident or near miss has occurred.
This allows a manager to make sure people have received the assistance they need and any immediate actions have been taken to make the area or situation safe.
Reporting to the University via FlinSafe
All staff, students, contractor and visitors must then report via the online FlinSafe system.
You must also report the accident/injury on the University's online FlinSafe System, within 24 hours. If you are unable to report the accident/incident due to the accident, arrangements must be made for your supervisor to report it through FlinSafe.
Note: Reporting beyond the 24 hr time frame can potentially impact on the investigation process.
