Laser Safety
Work with lasers in the University is governed by WHS Regulations and Australian Standards and by the University Laser Safety Procedure. These documents outline various safety requirements to manage safe use of lasers. Equipment containing lasers must comply with Australian standards unless alternative measures are adopted that provide equivalent or better protection as set out in the relevant standard.
To maintain these requirements the University will keep a University Laser Register. All laser equipment is required to be notified to the University Laser Safety Officer using the Laser Equipment Registration Form to support maintaining this register.
Training
Specific Lasers
Managers, Supervisors and Researchers need to ensure that every person using a laser is trained on the safe operation of the laser being utilised. Training records must be kept locally and may be asked for during laser audits.
