Graduation ceremony

Graduations are pinnacle events that honour the achievements and success of our students and provide you with the opportunity to reflect on and celebrate with your family and friends.

Step 1: Eligibility

All graduates must , be conferred and confirmed the option of attending in order to register for an upcoming graduation ceremony.

However, international, Doctor of Medicine and Doctor of Philosophy/ Doctorate students completing their studies in semester 2, will be invited to register for December graduation before they are conferred.

2024

February DIPSM Only (Adelaide)

Students must have completed a Diploma in Sports Management in collaboration with Port Adelaide Footbal Club.

April (Adelaide)

Eligible to attend the April graduation ceremonies:

Students must be conferred on 27 March 2024 OR conferred within 12 months prior
(Must be marked as complete by Tuesday 19 March AND have a valid USI (Unique Student Identifier) recorded in the Student System to be conferred on 27 March)

AND

Have selected to receive their testamur by 'attending' a ceremony via the Student System (this can only be accessed once your conferral date has been allocated)

Ineligible to attend the April graduation ceremonies:

Students who are completed in their studies after 19 March 2024, or
Students who have not been conferred or,
Students who have collected their testamur via a collection or postage option (unless otherwise negotiated), or
Students who have not recorded or do not have a valid USI (Unique Student Identifier) in the Student System.

December (Adelaide)

Eligible to attend the December graduation ceremonies:

A domestic student who does not have non-semester 2 or semester 2 2024 enrolments, or
An international student who will have completed and passed all the requirements of the degree/award, and have no outstanding grades, prior to and including semester 2 2024, or
A Doctor of Medicine student, or
A higher degree by research student (Doctor of Philosophy or Doctorate), or
Graduates with a valid USI (Unique Student Identifier) which is recorded in the Student System.

Ineligible to attend the December graduation ceremonies:

Domestic students who have completed and passed all the requirements of the degree/award in semester 2 2024, or
An international student who is awarded a deferred or supplementary examination in their final semester, semester 2 2024, or
Students who have not recorded or do not have a valid USI (Unique Student Identifier) in the Student System.

Students/Graduates ineligible for December 2024, will be invited to attend a graduation ceremony again in 2025.

December (Darwin)

To be eligible to attend the Darwin graduation ceremony, you must be a:

Northern Territory Medicine Program student (NTMP), or
Northern Territory resident, or
Northern Territory resident returning home.

Unique Student Identifier (USI)

From 1 January 2023, all students must have a valid USI and have updated their USI in the Student System, to be eligible for Graduation.

Graduation ceremony dates and times are subject to change at any time.

2024

December (Darwin)

Date & time: Tuesday 10 December 2024, 2:30pm - 5:30pm

Location: Darwin Convention Centre

All eligible graduates who have indicated in the student system that they wish to attend a ceremony to receive their physical testamur will be emailed details about how to book. Official invitations will go out closer to the date.

December (Adelaide)

Dates: Thursday 12 – Friday 13 December 2024

Location: Adelaide Convention Centre Halls C, D, E

2025

April (Adelaide)

Dates: Tuesday 15 - Thursday 17 April 2025

Location: Adelaide Convention Centre

Ceremony registration is not yet open. All eligible graduates who have indicated in
the student system that they wish to attend a ceremony to receive their physical
testamur will be emailed details about how to book in March 2025.

Step 3: Ceremony registration

Ceremony registration for December 2024 is open.

All eligible graduates will have access to register their attendance to the next graduation ceremony in December 2024 via the portal.

Registration will close at midnight, Thursday 28 November 2024.

If you believe you are eligible to graduate and are unable to access the portal, please contact Ask Flinders for assistance.

Register yourself
Allocate guest ticket amount (provide guest information after checkout)
View your ceremony date and time
Provide your name pronunciation (phonetics)
Add any special accessibility requirements
Hire your gown and cap

Step 4: Graduation day

Car parking and public transport

Car parking

There are car parking facilities at the Adelaide Convention Centre. Please ensure you allow plenty of time to park as the Adelaide Convention Centre and city car parks often fill up quickly.

When to arrive

Ceremony registration and academic dress collection will be available on the day, 2 hours prior to the scheduled start of the graduation ceremony.

You need to check in for your ceremony and receive your seating allocation no later than 30 minutes prior to the commencement of the ceremony.

What to wear (academic dress)

Academic dress

All graduates attending a graduation ceremony are required to wear the full approved academic dress. It is made up of three parts;

Gown,
Hood and
Mortarboard or bonnet.

The colour and style of your academic dress is determined by the level of qualification you are completing and the discipline you studied. The hood colour is determined by your college.

Stoles

If you are an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Australian you are entitled to wear a stole, worn over the gown and under the hood of the academic dress for the relevant degree. You can borrow a stole for your ceremony, they will be available at academic dress collection.

On the day collection

The collection and return of your academic dress will be in the academic dress area on graduation day. All academic dress must be returned before leaving the Adelaide Convention Centre.

Providing your own academic dress

You can borrow academic dress items from friends and family, however, all items must be in the correct specification as per the Academic Dress Procedures and may be required to be approved prior to your ceremony by Graduation Services.

Guest tickets

Graduates do not need to request a ticket for themselves to attend, but must register to participate in the ceremony.

The number of guest tickets each graduate receives depends on the total number of graduates who register to attend each ceremony and any restrictions on events leading up to graduation day. The maximum number of tickets you will be able to request will be specified in the graduation portal. Please specify the number of guest tickets you would like when registering to attend a ceremony.

All guests attending your ceremony will require a ticket, which includes carers, infants and children. Guest tickets are issued via the graduation portal. All guests that are attending must be issued their ticket prior to the ceremony, otherwise they will not be permitted entry on the day.

You may request additional tickets, however these tickets are not guaranteed. Should any additional tickets become available, you will be notified by email seven (7) days prior to your ceremony.

Ceremony duration

Graduation ceremonies last for approximately 1.5 – 2.5 hours. This does not include travel time or when graduates or guests are required to be present prior to the commencement of the ceremony.

Photos

GFP Graduations take photographs during graduation ceremonies. Packages are available to order prior to the graduation ceremony via the Graduation portal.

A photograph of your stage presentation will be available to pre order or for purchase on the day. Studios will also be available after each ceremony for individual and group photographs.

Framing

GFP Graduations will be providing framing and plaque services for graduates on graduation day!

Testamur Frames

GFP Graduations can frame a graduates certificate on Graduation Day. Graduates can choose from a variety of stylish frames designed to preserve their hard-earned testamur in pristine condition making it a proud symbol of their accomplishment for years to come. Frames are available for pre-order to save time or can be purchased on the day.

Testamur Plaques

Plaques are a beautiful replica of a graduates testamur on either a silver or gold plate mounted onto their choice of wooden or acrylic base. A plaque will certainly make a statement on any wall!

Ceremony livestream

All graduation ceremonies held at the Adelaide Convention Centre are livestreamed and will be made available 4 weeks after the last ceremony.

Feeling unwell?

If you are feeling unwell or experiencing cold or flu like symptoms on the day of your ceremony, it is important that you stay home and seek medical advice.

Please email Graduation Services, graduation@flinders.edu.au including your name and student ID number, to advise that you are unable to attend as soon as possible.
