Academic dress information and purchase

Graduation

Overview Graduation ceremony dates and locations Degree conferral Graduation celebration Academic dress information and purchase Ceremony livestream and video Life after graduation

The tradition of wearing academic dress continues in universities around the world and it is customary on ceremonial occasions such as graduation ceremonies.

Academic dress is made up of three parts; the gown, the hood and the cap.

The colour and style of your academic dress is determined by the level of qualification you are completing and the discipline you studied. View more information about the specifications of each item for your particular qualification in the Academic Dress Procedures (PDF), and the PANTONE colour chart below for the colour specifications

You can wear the full academic dress for your course at any future event once you are conferred.

Ceremony arrangements

All graduates attending a graduation celebration must wear the correct academic dress in order to cross the stage.

Non-ceremony arrangements

The COVID-19 pandemic is an unprecedented and serious community situation and in order to keep all students and staff safe in this current environment we regret to advise that we will cease all academic dress hire services with immediate effect.

The health and wellbeing of our students and staff is of utmost importance and we wish to ensure that we have a safe environment for all at this time.

We apologise for the inconvenience and will advise as soon as this service is available again.

Purchasing academic dress

If you would like to purchase your academic dress attire instead of hiring you may do so providing it is the correct specification as per the Academic Dress Procedures.

We recommend the following suppliers:
