Parenting Support and Facilities
Flinders University supports parents to balance the demand between work/study and their role as parent or carer.
Students who are pregnant, breastfeeding or have caring responsibilities can access reasonable adjustments to support them during pregnancy, if breastfeeding during examination periods and to accommodate their caring responsibilities.
Please contact Disability Services for further information.
Childcare
On-campus childcare is available at Bedford Park at the Flinders University Childcare Centre.
The centre is a non-profit, community-based centre located at the Sturt Precinct. For details please visit the website.
There is also the Community Childcare Centre located near the School of Medicine at Flinders Medical Centre. Please phone the centre direct on (08) 8204 5306 or (08) 8204 4983 with any enquiries.
As places at these centres can be limited, you may also wish to search more broadly using the following resources:
- SA Government Office for Early Childhood Development
- Starting Blocks, a free Australian Government website to help you find and compare childcare services
Breastfeeding facilities
Flinders University supports women who wish to breastfeed their babies while they are studying.
While women are welcome to breastfeed or bottle feed their babies, wherever they feel comfortable on campus we also have facilities for students and staff who would like a private space to breastfeed or express milk.
All facilities can be used by staff and students.
Rooms have fridges, or where fridges are not available, fridges that are located in staff common rooms throughout the campus are available for students to store clearly labelled breastmilk or bottled milk.
The Australian Breastfeeding Association (ABA) has more information on expressing and storing breastmilk.
