In accordance with the Higher Education Legislation Amendment (Student Services and Amenities) Bill 2010, passed on 11 October 2011, a student services and amenities fee is charged to all students enrolled other than the nominated exemptions identified below.
The student services and amenities fee does not attract GST.
Amounts to be charged in 2024
A fee will be charged for each topic enrolled as at the census date, with the maximum total fee of $351 in 2024. The fee for each topic is calculated as:
$351 x (number of units/36)

Time-based research candidates are charged the services and amenities fee based on their enrolment load each semester, up to the maximum of $163.00 per semester for full-time enrolment. (Enrolment load is calculated based on the number of days of enrolment each semester and whether the candidate is full-time or part-time.)
Specified teaching locations
Specified teaching locations are those categorised under the Australian Standard Geographical Classification as Outer Regional Australia, Remote Australia, or Very Remote Australia. For Flinders University these locations are: Renmark, Mt Gambier+, Alice Springs, Port Lincoln, Katherine and Darwin.
+Flinders University considers topics delivered in Mt Gambier as Outer Regional Australia for the purposes of charging the reduced rate.
Exemptions
The following students will be exempt from payment of the fee:
- Off-shore students enrolled in courses delivered in partnership with the University's off-shore partners
- Onshore international students (Note: The University pays an amount equivalent to SSAF annually from fee revenue collected from fee-paying international students)
- Students enrolled in one of the University's foundation studies programs
