Accepting your higher degree by research offer

Congratulations on receiving an offer to study at Flinders University.

It is important you follow the steps outlined in your offer letter to prepare for admission into your course.

Before you review your offer, you will need:

  • Your offer letter

Please ensure that you make a selection in the drop down above with what type of student you are to see the steps below.

Your Flinders University account

The first thing you need to do is activate your Flinders account. Your account is the combination of your Student ID number and your Flinders Authentication Name (FAN). These are unique to you, and provide you with access to a range of important systems and information while you're at Flinders, such as borrowing library books, submitting assignments, connecting to campus WiFi and more.

Part 1: Review your offer

Carefully read through your Offer of Admission to a higher degree by research. Once you’ve done so, follow the steps on this page to act on your offer. You can accept, decline or defer your offer.

It’s important to read your offer letter as it contains important information about how to accept your offer and may include a due date to secure your place in your course.

  • If your offer contains special conditions, please review the HDR special conditions.
  • If you need to change your start date to within the same half-year period as your offer (ie Jan-Jun or Jul-Dec), immediately notify HDR.Admissions@flinders.edu.au  before accepting your offer, otherwise the date cannot be changed.
  • If you applied for a Flinders scholarship, Student Finance and Scholarships will advise you of the outcome separately.

Part 2: Accept your offer

If you’re satisfied with your offer and have fulfilled offer conditions, you must accept or request a deferral by the date specified in your offer letter.

You'll need to formally accept your offer in the Student System. Follow the steps below.

Watch: How to accept or defer an offer.

View step-by-step instructions keyboard_arrow_up
  1. Access the Student System.
  2. Go to My Applications.
  3. The My Applications screen displays all offers awaiting a response.
  4. Click Respond on the offer you want to accept.
  5. Review your offer and click Accept to proceed.
  6. You’ll receive a confirmation in the system.
Want to defer your offer? keyboard_arrow_up

If you're not ready to start studying now, you can request to have your offer deferred to a start date in the next semester (half-year intake) or subsequent semester (half-year intake).

We can hold your place in a deferrable course for up to two consecutive years.

To defer your offer, you must first accept it in the Flinders Student System. It's important that you respond to your offer by the date stated in your offer letter to secure your spot in the course.

If you simply wish to change the start date on your offer letter to earlier or later in the same semester (half-year intake), email HDR.Admissions@flinders.edu.au nominating your new start date. Don't formally apply to defer.

You may decline your offer, or if you don't act on it, it'll lapse after a period of inaction and be withdrawn.

Part 3: Set up multi-factor authentication (MFA)

Once you've activated your Flinders University account, we encourage you to set up multi-factor authentication (MFA) on your mobile device. MFA is an additional security step to protect your Flinders account.

For added security and peace of mind, it's a good idea to enable MFA on more than one device. That way, you'll have a backup if you don't have your mobile with you or in case of emergencies like a lost or broken device.

Click the link below to learn more about MFA.

Set up MFA

*Note if you do not do this step now, you will be prompted to do this next time you go to log in to a Flinders University system.

Part 1: Review your offer

If your offer contains special conditions, please review the HDR special conditions before you act on your offer.

Part 2: Accept your offer

If you’re satisfied with your offer and have fulfilled offer conditions, you must accept or request a deferral by the date specified in your offer letter.

You'll need to accept your offer in our International Application System (Studylink). Please ensure you upload your signed acceptance form indicating the start date agreed with your supervisor, along with any other documents we've requested as part of your offer. Make sure you've provided all the requested documents so we can process your acceptance without delay.

If you have applied through an education agent, please contact them to complete this step for you.

Then, we will review your documents and let you know if you need to provide anything further.

Want to defer your offer? keyboard_arrow_up

If you receive an offer to Flinders but do not wish to start studying immediately, you may be able to defer the commencement of your course until the following intake based on compassionate or compelling grounds. This is subject to University approval.

Please discuss with your supervisor first to confirm you have their approval to delay the project start date. It's advisable to have their approval in writing as evidence.

Applications for deferral will be reassessed according to the University's Genuine Student guidelines.

You need to contact Flinders International to request a deferral. Your request will be sent to your college of application for a decision, and you'll be notified of the outcome by email in due course.

Want to decline your offer? keyboard_arrow_up

You may decline your offer. However, if choose not to act on your offer, it'll lapse after a period of inaction and will be withdrawn.

Part 3: Pay your deposit

Your initial payment is due once you have accepted your Offer of Admission. You’ll be redirected to the Convera Payment Gateway once you accept your offer using our International Application System (Studylink). The Offer of Admission will specify how much your initial payment will be.

You must also pay your Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) visa payment at this time. If you’re arranging your own OSHC in advance, please make sure to send us the proof as soon as you can.

Once you've made your initial payment, remaining balances must be paid by the topic due date. As a student, you're billed per topic according to your enrolment, making it easy to keep track of payments.

Part 4: Activate your Flinders University account

Once your payment has been processed, we’ll issue you a Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE).

After that, you need to activate your Flinders University account which includes your Flinders Authentication Name (FAN) and Student ID number.

You need your FAN to access important information and systems such as borrowing library books, submitting assignments, connecting to campus WiFi and more. Think of your FAN as your personal username at Flinders.

Part 5: Set up multi-factor authentication (MFA)

Now that you've activated your Flinders University account, we encourage you to set up multi-factor authentication (MFA) on your mobile device. For added security and peace of mind, it's a good idea to enable MFA on more than one device. That way, you'll have a backup if you don't have your mobile with you or in case of emergencies like a lost or broken device.
