Understanding New Caledonia: New perspectives and traditions

A two-week intensive study tour to New Caledonia coordinated by CISaustralia, will allow Flinders students to participate in 30 hours of French language classes with other Australian and international students at a local language institute (CREIPAC). Students will have an opportunity to improve their understanding of New Caledonia’s socio-cultural specificities while developing their language skills in formal and informal contexts. Students will also develop a project (in English or in French) investigating a socio-cultural theme of interest pertaining to New Caledonia. 

Applicants must:

• Be Australian citizens aged between18 and 28. *Note there are some limited exemptions to age requirements.
• Have completed a minimum of 18 units of study and achieved a GPA of 5.00.
• Be eligible to enrol in LANG3500 Special in-country studies topic (NS2) and count the topic towards their degree (as an elective or as part of their French major/minor) – students should seek approval from the course coordinator before applying.
• Prior to the in-country program, students will be required to attend a series of preparatory classes at Flinders aimed at providing background information on New Caledonia and the project to be developed as part of LANG3500 Special in-country studies topic (NS2).
• French language proficiency is not mandatory; however, in the first instance, preference will be given to students who have completed at least 9 units of French.

Step 1: Interested students should submit an AskFlinders request to seek approval to enrol into LANG3500 Special In-country topic|

Step 2: If Step 1 is approved, students should email a 250-300 word expression of interest outlining their motivation to participate in the program to lwb@flinders.edu.au. Include a screenshot or attach your college topic approval from step 1.

• Successful students will be instructed how to apply for the program through CISaustralia at a later stage.
•  Students that meet eligibility should register their program travel with Flinders to receive no cost student travel insurance.

OPTION 1:

A$3,599 – Hotel, same gender, shared room, 2 weeks (30 hours French language instruction)

OPTION 2:

A$4,599 – Hotel, single room, 2 weeks (30 hours French language instruction)

• Up to 10 x A$3,000 New Colombo Plan Mobility Grant are available to eligible undergraduate students.
•  Students may also be eligible to apply for an OS Help Loan.
• Program fees are payable direct to CISaustralia and will cover items as listed on their website.

Flinders University reserves the right to alter fees at any time due to currency fluctuations and/or fee changes made by our travel providers.

Not included:

• Return airfares between Australia and New Caledonia, visas, meals, local transport, additional excursions and personal expenses.
