Preparing for overseas study requires plenty of planning. If this is your first time studying overseas, you may have a lot of questions on your mind – for example – how much money to bring, what to pack, Australian customs and quarantine laws, and many more.
Settling in to a new environment requires adequate information and knowledge.
The following guide will help you to prepare for your overseas studies and to settle into your new environment. It will help you to negotiate your first few months in Adelaide, and will continue to act as a useful reference during your studies at Flinders.
International Student Services offers a free meet and greet service for new international students. Please make full use of this service, especially if you have not travelled to Australia before. This is the best way to avoid stress upon arrival!
A member of our Arrival Team will greet you when you arrive at Adelaide Airport, the Adelaide Parklands Terminal (interstate train) or the Adelaide Central Bus Station, provide you with an arrival pack and assist you and accompanying family members with organising transport by taxi or ride-share service to your accommodation.
All you need to do to is
This service is only available if your booking is received at least five days before you arrive. Should you arrive by bus or train, please add a comment and more details under "Additional Information". Once you have successfully submitted your Meet & Greet request a final booking confirmation with important information will be sent to your Flinders email account and your personal email registered with the University. Should you not have received this email within an hour of submitting your booking please contact us.
If you are a student on an Australia Awards Scholarship you do not need to complete the meet and greet booking form because your Post will give us your travel details.
Once you have been offered a place to study as an Australia Awards funded student, you will receive pre-departure information from both the post in your home country and Flinders University. The University’s pre-departure information is also available here: AAS Pre-departure Information.
Students wishing to bring family members to Australia are strongly discouraged from bringing them when they first arrive in Adelaide, unless there are special circumstances (for example if a student is breast-feeding).
