NURS8761 Acute Mental Health Nursing Practice (semester 1)

The information on this page is to be read in addition to the placement information for all postgraduate nursing students.

It is recommended that students explore their placement options and requirements prior to enrolment.

The required placement experiences may not be available in your local area and some travel may be necessary to address all the placement requirements.

Students are required to undertake 200 hours of placement in an acute inpatient mental health setting.

All students should identify whether they are undertaking the placement as an employee or requiring the placement to be organised for them as part of their compliance process.

*Flinders University only organises placements in South Australia.

SA students

South Australian students can have a placement organised by the Work Integrated Learning placement team. Students requiring a placement will be allocated a placement via InPlace after compliance documents have been received and verified. Alternatively, students can undertake their placement with their employer by completing the placement confirmation form.

Non-SA students

Students living outside of South Australia can undertake their placement with their employer or negotiate a placement with a suitable venue in their state. See placement form here.

Facilitation

Students will be allocated a clinical educator/facilitator for the placement. Facilitator details will be available from InPlace two weeks before placement commences.

Professional experience placement exemption

Students can apply for a placement exemption in recognition of their previous/concurrent knowledge and clinical achievements associated with the Professional Experience Placement Portfolio (PEPP) requirements and the related National Standards for Mental Health Nursing in Australia.
