The information on this page is to be read in addition to the placement information for all postgraduate nursing students.
It is recommended that students explore their placement options and requirements prior to enrolment.
The required placement experiences may not be available in your local area and some travel may be necessary to address all the placement requirements.
The Graduate Certificate Diabetes Management and Education course includes a 40 hour clinical placement component and requires the completion of the Student Placement Record Booklet. The placement component is part of the NURS8732 Diabetes Professional Practice topic and is the final topic of the course.
Placement criteria
As stated in the Student Placement Record Booklet placement criteria includes maximum opportunities for students to experience the interdisciplinary team in a variety of diabetes clinical scenarios including;
•people with different types of diabetes, across the various life stages (children and adolescents to adults and the elderly),
•people at various diabetes experience stages (the newly diagnosed to those with advanced complications)
•individuals from different communities and cultural backgrounds (including Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples).
If the above criteria cannot sufficiently be met in your local area then some travel may be necessary or you may be required to go to more than one venue.
For details about the specific requirements of the clinical placement please refer to the ADEA Student Placement Record Booklet available for download at: www.adea.com.au/resources/postgraduate-certificates
The Work Integrated Learning Placement Team can organise a placement in South Australia and can also assist organising interstate placement, depending on affiliated student placement agreements and cannot be guaranteed. Students may be required to travel for their placement and may be eligible for partial reimbursement.
Important: Placement cannot occur in the students own diabetes service workplace.
