Diploma placement requirements

My course Workplace placements and compliance requirements WIL compliance Diploma in Sports Management & Diploma in Sport Business

The Diploma in Sports Management and Diploma in Sport Business programs combine theoretical learning with hands-on training, providing students with a well-rounded education that prepares them for a successful career in the sports industry. Incorporating a Sports Management Practicum, this comprehensive program is designed to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and practical experience necessary to excel in the dynamic field of sports management.

Depending on which sporting organisation you are undertaking your studies with, you will be based at the facility or in a hybrid model with academic studies on campus and hands on training at the facility.

Placement hours are between 50 – 100 hours, depending on the program.

The Diploma of Sports Management and Diploma in Sports Business are offered in partnership with:

  • Port Adelaide Football Club – Based at Alberton Oval (Sports Management)

Detailed compliance information

Department of Human Services (DHS) clearances keyboard_arrow_up

These clearances are valid for five years from date of issue (unless revoked prior), except Aged Care Sector Clearance, which has an expiry of three years.

There are three main types of screening offered by the DHS the University requires; Aged-Care Sector, Working With Children Check (WWCC). Refer to the pre-placement compliance checklist to determine which screenings you require.

Formerly known as Department of Communities and Social Inclusion (DCSI) clearances, DHS clearances are state-based clearances used to determine suitability for employment within specific care sectors in South Australia.

Note: Working With Children Checks issued prior to 1 July 2019 are known as Child-Related Employment Screenings.

Obtaining DHS clearances

The College of Business, Government and Law require students to obtain DHS Clearances through self-initiation via the DHS website.

Please follow this guide for step-by-step directions of how to start your application.

Existing clearances can be renewed up to 6 months prior to expiry. It is recommended that clearances are renewed early to ensure there is no lapse in compliance.

View more information on the DHS website.

Preparing for placement

Code of Conduct keyboard_arrow_up

Students, once enrolled, will need to complete a series of training modules and read and understand relevant declarations. Completing these modules will helps students acquire essential knowledge and skills related to various topics, such as workplace safety, conflict resolution, and basic skills in dealing with conflict. These modules aim to enhance students' understanding and abilities in these areas, which can be valuable in their personal and professional lives as well as being prepared to meet the standards and expectations of the host organisation.

By completing these modules, students demonstrate their commitment to following the policies, procedures, and code of conduct as well as their willingness to adhere to and maintain the confidentiality and security of the shared information between the University and Host.

Overall, completing these training modules equips students with important knowledge, skills, and a sense of responsibility, enabling them to navigate various situations effectively and contribute positively to their academic and professional environments.
