Sustainable Futures: Heritage and Cultural Tourism in Malaysia

This immersive, one-week experience in Malaysia offers students interdisciplinary opportunities designed to build knowledge and raise awareness of social, cultural and environmental challenges in Southeast Asia. Participants will explore diverse urban and regional settings, including Kuala Lumpur and Malacca. Workshops will cover topics such as heritage management, cultural tourism, and sustainable development.

Eligibility |
Must have completed 63 units of study by the end of Semester 1 2025 (including GEOG1001) and deemed suitable to represent Flinders University overseas. If GEOG1001 has not been completed, students must provide evidence of completing a similar topic. |

Travel Scholarships Available
For eligible students, the cost program can offset by:
- RA Simpson International Scholarship AUD $500 (subject to meeting eligibility requirements).
- OS-HELP up to AUD $9,504 (conditions apply).

Program Costs (Indicative)
The program cost is AUD $750. The cost for Australian undergraduate citizens can be offset by the RA Simpson Scholarship and OS-HELP up to $9,504 (conditions apply).
The cost will cover:
- Academic support and mentorship for the 1-week program
- Accommodation (twin share)
- Select dinners
- Regular organised events, trips, and activities throughout the program
The cost will not include:
- Return and internal flights – Approx. cost AUD $1100
- Visa (if applicable)
- Vaccinations/medical arrangements (consult your medical professional prior to departure)
- Independent trips, shopping, and other meals
Flinders University reserves the right to alter the program cost at any time due to currency fluctuations and/or fee changes made by its partners.
All students participating in this program will be covered by the university’s travel insurance. Please note, this cover is limited. It is advised that you read the Flinders University Travel and Insurance schedule of benefits before you go, know what is covered and what is not covered.

Study Plan Query
Students without GEOG3000 in their study plan should submit an online enquiry via Ask Flinders (click “Request Support”) and have their study plan checked by the College before applying.
