Governance and Diplomacy: Vietnam study tour in collaboration with the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam (DAV)

Embark on a transformative journey through Vietnam with our Governance and Diplomacy study tour, in collaboration with the prestigious Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam (DAV).

Delve into the rich political and cultural history of Ho Chi Minh City, followed by an immersive educational experience in governance, foreign policy, and diplomacy in Hanoi. Engage with expert speakers, explore national and local political and diplomatic sites, and interact with DAV students through workshops and discussions. This two-week program offers a unique opportunity for students to deepen their understanding of Vietnam's governance and diplomacy while experiencing its vibrant culture firsthand.

Week 1: Explore the Political and Cultural History of Ho Chi Minh City
Week 2: Educational Program in Governance, Foreign Policy, and Diplomacy in Hanoi, Organised by DAV.

Travel Scholarships Available

The program is supported by the Australian Government’s New Colombo Plan (NCP). For eligible students, the cost of this program can offset by:

• AUD $3,980 Australian Government New Colombo Plan Grant
• RA Simpson International Scholarship AUD $500 (subject to meeting eligibility requirements)
• OS-HELP up to AUD $9,504 (conditions apply)

If you are an international student, permanent resident or do not meet the eligibility for an NCP Grant, you may still participate and be offered an RA Simpson Scholarship AUD $500 (conditions apply). If you are a Post-Graduate, commonwealth-supported student, you are eligible to apply for OS-HELP up to AUD $9,504 (conditions apply).

Program Costs (Indicative)

The cost of this program is approximately AUD $2,020 which includes a non-refundable deposit of AUD $200 after committing to the program. 

The cost will cover:

• Academic support and mentorship for the 2-week program with Dr Leoni Connah
• Domestic transport to and from airport
• Welcome pack & detailed orientation
• 10 nights’ accommodation in Ho Chi Minh city and Hanoi, inclusive of all bills and Wi-Fi (where available)
• Select dinners and celebratory events
• Regular organised events, trips & activities throughout the program
• Educational program delivered by the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam (DAV) 

The cost will not include:

• a)    Return flight to Vietnam (flying into Ho Chi Minh city and exiting from Hanoi)
• b)    Internal domestic flight from Ho Chi Minh city to Hanoi
• c)     Single-entry visa to Vietnam
• d)    Vaccinations/medical arrangements (please consult your medical professional prior to departure for vaccination advice)
• e)    3 nights’ accommodation in Vietnam
• f)      Meals during the stay in Vietnam
• g)    Independent trips, shopping, and other meals                

 Estimated costs for items (a – d) $1,960

*Note that these costs can be offset with a New Colombo Plan grant – as detailed below – if an applicant is successful in securing a grant.

All students participating in this program will be covered by the university’s travel insurance. Please note, this cover is limited. It is advised that you read the Flinders University Travel and Insurance schedule of benefits before you go, know what is covered and what is not covered.

Study Plan Query

Submit an Ask Flinders query to confirm whether you have room in your study plan to take topic GOVT3005 International Relations and Political Science Practicum in S2, 2024.

Please note that the selection process for the NCP-funded places will be based on a written application, an unofficial student transcript, as well as an interview with candidates that will take place once applications have closed.

Once your study plan is confirmed, submit an Expression of Interest to leoni.connah@flinders.edu.au and jessica.genauer@flinders.edu.au by 5pm Wednesday, 15 May 2024 on the application deadline. Include the following information:

• First and last name
