Fringe To Fringe: Performing The Indo-Pacific

Professor Chris Hay will lead "Fringe To Fringe: Performing The Indo-Pacific" a unique three-week field trip in Singapore for Flinders Drama students. This immersive program focuses on Indo-Pacific performance and theatrical culture. Students will participate in workshops with Singaporean practitioners and local students. Additionally, they will take attend the prestigious M1 Singapore Fringe Festival, known for showcasing innovative and socially-engaged contemporary works. Upon returning to Australia, the students will perform at the Adelaide Fringe Festival.

Eligibility	An actively enrolled Flinders student. Be deemed suitable to represent Flinders University overseas and be in good academic standing.

Credit (Academic Recognition)	Access to a 4.5 unit of credit toward academic program. Able to enrol in DRAM3015. On successful completion of the study tour/assessment, students should be eligible to receive 4.5 units of credit.
GPA	4.5 or above

Financial Support

Travel Scholarships Available

The program is supported by the Australian Government’s New Colombo Plan (NCP). For eligible students, the cost program can offset by:

AUD $3,560 Australian Government New Colombo Plan Grant
RA Simpson International Scholarship AUD $500 (subject to meeting eligibility requirements)
OS-HELP up to AUD $9,504 (conditions apply)

If you are an international student, permanent resident or do not meet the eligibility for an NCP Grant, you may still participate and be offered an RA Simpson Scholarship AUD $500 (conditions apply). If you are a Post-Graduate, commonwealth-supported student, you are eligible to apply for OS-HELP up to AUD $9,504 (conditions apply).

Finances

Program Costs (Indicative)

The program cost is AUD $5,000 which includes a non-refundable deposit of AUD $200. The cost for Australian undergraduate citizens can be offset by an AUD $3,560 New Colombo Plan grant and OS-HELP up to $9,504 (conditions apply).

The cost will cover:

Academic support and mentorship for the 3-week program
Return flights, Adelaide to Singapore
Airport pickup - transfer to accommodation, welcome pack & detailed orientation
Accommodation and Wi-Fi (where available)
Regular organised events, trips, and activities throughout the program, including tickets to shows at the M1 Singapore Fringe Festival 2025.

The cost will not include:

Visa (students must obtain this documentation)
Vaccinations/medical arrangements (consult your medical professional prior to departure)
Independent trips, shopping, and other meals

*Note that these costs can be offset with a New Colombo Plan grant – as detailed below – if an applicant is successful in securing a grant.

Flinders University reserves the right to alter the program cost at any time due to currency fluctuations and/or fee changes made by its partners.

All students participating in this program will be covered by the university’s travel insurance. Please note, this cover is limited. It is advised that you read the Flinders University Travel and Insurance schedule of benefits before you go, know what is covered and what is not covered.

Study Plan Query

Students without DRAM3015 Production Laboratory in their study plan should submit an online enquiry via Ask Flinders (click “Request Support”) and have their study plan checked by the College before applying. Please include the following question in your enquiry:

Do I have a 4.5 unit topic (DRAM3015) available that will allow me to participate in the NCP program titled “Fringe To Fringe: Performing The Indo-Pacific”?

Expression of Interest

Once your study plan is confirmed, submit an Expression of Interest to chris.hay@flinders.edu.au by Sunday, 1st September 2024, 5 pm on the application deadline. Include the following information:
