Self-paced online EAP modules

You can complete the online English for Academic Purposes (EAP) modules anywhere, anytime, via the EAP FLO site. Each module will include educational content, further reading for you to do in your own time, and opportunities to apply your new knowledge through practice activities and a final graded quiz.

Getting Started at University with Ready2Go

The Student Learning Support Service is here to help you get a head-start in kicking those academic goals. The week before semester starts is the perfect time to get your head around how to manage your time and balance your new university life, assignments and grades and the key skills you'll need to study with success.

During orientation, we run live Ready2Go sessions online and in-person. Check your orientation emails from Flinders University for more information.

In this session we will put you in your lecturers’ shoes and show you what they look for when grading an assignment. We will show you:

  • The steps you should take throughout the assignment process from start to final submission.
  • The various skills needed for uni work and how to build on them.
  • How to think ahead and prepare well for any assignment that comes your way.
  • What to do to get consistently good results at university.

What will I take away from this module?

  • A better understanding of critical thinking.
  • An introduction to academic writing, reading and referencing at uni.
  • An understanding of what is expected of an excellent assignment submission.
  • The recipe for success!

Life at University is new and exciting, it’s like stepping into a different world with a completely different culture. As a new student, you may be thinking about the following:

  • What do lecturers want from students?
  • What is involved in writing assignments at Flinders?
  • What do terms like GPA, WIL, HD, Census and many others mean?
  • How different will exams and assignments be from the ones I had in school, and what exactly do I need to do?

What will I take away from this module?

  • A head start understanding university language.
  • An understanding of the difference between lectures, tutorials, workshops, and other learning activities.
  • Knowledge of assessments and why we do them.
  • An understanding of the grading system at Flinders.

Ready2Go: Balancing Uni and Life

Your new student life may require significant changes to the lifestyle you have been used to. Juggling student life and other commitments with competing needs and deadlines can be tricky.

This session highlights factors that could affect your time at Flinders. It will help you recognise how uni life can impact on other life considerations and can help you build a plan to make sure you have a positive and enjoyable university experience.
