Program Overview

This two week Indonesian mobility project provides an introductory dual purpose learning experience for Flinders University students to develop their international and intercultural knowledge together with a professional competency to engage in the international workplace. In conjunction with institutional partners: Wisma Bahasa, Universitas Gadjah Mada in Yogyakarta, Universitas Indonesia in Jakarta, and Universitas Hasanuddin in Makasar, through language trainingseminars, homestay, and experiential learning activities, students are educated in Indonesian culture and society, economy and workplace, political, and foreign affairs.

26 funded places with the New Colombo Plan Mobility Grant 


Open To

  • Bachelor degree applicants will be given approval to enrol into LLAW3274 or INTR3103 International Practicum (4.5 units) in order to undertake this program, and this topic will be counted as an upper level topic in any Asian Studies, Development Studies, International Relations or Security Studies major or minor, or as an upper level elective topic. Students must have room in their study plan for this topic in order to receive credit.
  • Successful Honours degree applicants will be given approval to enrol into ASST7015 Supervised Research Project in Asian Studies (4.5 units) in order to undertake this program.
  • Students should submit an online enquiry Ask Flinders (click “Request Support” and have their study plan checked by College before applying.


Eligibility

  • Australian citizens
  • Undergraduate students or Honours students
  • Successful completion of 36 units with a GPA of 4.5 or higher in a current degree
  • Students will be required to attend compulsory workshops in Semester 2 2018 prior to departure.


Credit

On successful completion of the project, students may be eligible to receive 4.5 units of credit


Costs

The approximate cost for the trip is $4,160 including;

  • Program fees
  • Accommodation (hotels and homestay) with some meals
  • Return airfares between Adelaide and Indonesia

Students are responsible for additional expenses such as an application for a passport, visa, vaccination, additional meals, extra activities and transport and personal expenses.

A total of 26 x $3,000 New Colombo Plan Mobility grants are available to support eligible participants. In addition, students may also be eligible to apply for an OS Help Loan.

Students are eligible to register with Flinders travel insurance, which is provided free of charge.

Your expression of interest should include the following:

  • Your full name, Flinders student number
  • Unofficial transcript (download one from the Student Systems)
  • A short (no more than 500 word) statement in response to the following three questions:
  1. Why do you want to be involved in this project, and what unique contribution would you make to the team?
  2. What experience do you have with collaboration in the context of Indonesia-Australia relations?
