Topic description
In this topic emphasis is placed on oral-aural comprehension, as well as on understanding and use of both spoken and written French.
Educational aims
This topic aims to:

  • review and expand French grammatical structures and vocabulary acquired at previous levels

  • enhance students' communicative competence through participation in activities involving group or pair interaction

  • expose students to independent and collaborative learning and to language learning skill development

  • introduce students to basic textual analysis and literary readings in authentic French

  • assist students in developing listening skills for sound recognition and speech comprehension
Expected learning outcomes
On completing this topic, students will be able to:

  • identify the main points of clear standard speech and communicate in speech and writing on a range of familiar topics using simple language

  • recognise and use grammatical, syntactical, lexical and phonetic structures acquired throughout the semester

  • actively take part in writing and speaking French using appropriate structures and vocabulary

  • read and describe short texts and poems written in authentic French

  • recognise sounds and speech patterns of French spoken by native speakers in a range of sociocultural contexts
