The Bachelor of Creative Industries (Film and Television) requires three years of full-time study (or the equivalent part-time). The course is offered by the College of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences.

Students who wish to exit the award after completion of 36 units or 72 units may be awarded a Diploma of Creative Industries or an Associate Degree of Creative Industries respectively, subject to specific requirements.

The minimum requirements for consideration for entry to all undergraduate courses are specified in detail in the University Entry Requirements.

Course aims

The Bachelor of Creative Industries (Film and Television) aims to:

  • develop the creativity, strategic thinking, business capability and practical skills required for success in the creative and cultural industries sector and specifically in the design and development of screen media
  • promote the ability to work adaptively with new media and disruptive technologies in a fast-changing technologically driven industry environment
  • provide experience in working collaboratively, as part of an interdisciplinary creative team

Learning outcomes

On completion of this course, you will be able to:

  • apply theories of creative production and cultural value to analyse screen media including film and television
  • critically evaluate film and television projects in terms of their feasibility, sustainability and cultural and societal outcomes
  • develop and deliver creative industries projects and events while working independently and collaboratively
  • determine a range of partnership opportunities and funding sources for creative industries projects and events
  • interpret and critically evaluate contemporary policy for the creative arts and industries
  • combine skills in creative development, project management and marketing and apply them to delivering screen media projects

Program of study

To qualify for the Bachelor of Creative Industries (Film and Television), a student must complete 108 units with a grade of P or NGP or better in each topic, according to the following program of study.

No more than 45 units of First Year level topics may be included in the 108 units for the degree.

Elective topics may be selected from any offered within the University, provided any course and prerequisite requirements are met.

Not all topics are necessarily available in a given year.
