Bachelor of Creative Arts (Honours) - 1 year

Admission requirements

Applicants must normally have a Bachelor of Creative Arts or another qualification which the Dean (Education) agrees is equivalent and an overall Grade Point Average (GPA) of 5 or above.

A student who has completed all the requirements of the Bachelor of Creative Arts, or another qualification which the Dean (Education) agrees is equivalent, may be accepted as a candidate for the honours degree providing a sufficiently high standard has been achieved in fulfilling the requirements for the bachelors degree.

Course aims

The Honours degree in Creative Arts aims to provide students with advanced creative, conceptual and technical skills and knowledge to enable them to produce and promote original creative work in their specific field, to instil high-level knowledge of the processes involved in producing creative work and the opportunity to implement these processes in their specific field, to develop research skills and knowledge to undertake research and artistic projects, and to extend knowledge about career pathways in the creative industries.

Learning outcomes

Upon completion, graduates will be able to:

apply the advanced creative, cognitive and technical skills required by professional practitioners in the creative industries to produce and promote original creative work;
effectively deploy high-level knowledge of the processes involved in producing creative work;
review, analyse and critically evaluate ideas, methodologies and theories, and set and solve research problems which includes interpreting and applying ethical considerations of research and artistic activity in the creative industries;
work collaboratively with a range of professionals and participate effectively in a creative team;
independently design, plan and execute research activities and artistic projects;
appraise employment structures in their chosen field and identify some of the employment opportunities available in the creative industries.

Program of study

To qualify for the Bachelor of Creative Arts (Honours), a student must complete 36 units with a grade of P or NGP or better in each topic, according to the program of study below.

Not all topics are necessarily available in a given year.

*With Honours co-ordinator approval students can replace CREA7100 Understanding Research Methods in the Creative Arts with HASS7003 Understanding Research Methods in Humanities and Social Sciences (4.5 units)

**Students undertaking the Program in Enterprise with the approval of the Honours co-ordinator may substitute CREA7001 Exegesis with an additional option topic from the list if not undertaking a creative artefact as part of their honours thesis.
