Apply the skills you've learned throughout your degree to real-life projects to gain industry experience and build valuable industry connections.
If you're a student at the College of Business, Government and Law, you can participate in Industry Projects. During the semester you will collaborate with real-world industry partners to craft innovative solutions for pressing organisational needs, opportunities or challenges.
Industry projects are offered all throughout the year in a range of second year, third year and masters topics across management, marketing, international business and criminology.
An industry project forms part of the following course topics:
If you enrol in any of the above topics throughout your degree, you will automatically do an industry project as part of the topic assessment.
The time requirements will vary depending on the topic you choose to participate in and the level of involvement with the relevant business. Typically, you will be involved in:
Client briefing session
This is an opportunity for you to meet with the owner of the business at the start of the semester, learn more about their goals and challenges, and then ask them specific questions to help you define the scope of the project.
Initial student presentations
This is an opportunity for you to present your preliminary research and recommendations to your client and receive valuable feedback and guidance from them to help you improve your work before the final presentations.
Final presentations
This is an opportunity for you to present your final insights and recommendations to your client, and receive feedback and guidance from them which will inform any final adjustments you make to your final consultancy report.
Up to 30 students may be working with a particular industry partner during the semester. As the industry project takes the format of a group assignment, each student cohort will work in small teams.
Flinders works with several small-medium organisations in the for-profit, not-for-profit and charity space who operate in industries ranging from education, wine and hospitality, construction, manufacturing, retail, finance, criminal justice and professional services.
Depending on the topic you take, businesses may get you to work in the following areas of their business:
