Semester 2 Census date – this Friday The Census date is the last day you can withdraw from topic(s) without being charged fees, and without the topic(s) being recorded on your academic transcript. The Census date for Semester 2 topics is this Friday 30 August. Your Census date may be different if you are studying non-semester topic(s). You can check the Census date through the Student System (access via Okta). Select 'View My Current Enrolment' from the 'My Enrolment' tab. If you need help, please contact Flinders Connect . *International students are required to enrol in full-time study (18 units per semester). Withdrawing from topics may affect your Visa. Please contact International Student Services if you have any questions. |

Have you completed your SA-HELP form? Most Flinders students are required to pay the Student Services and Amenities Fee (SSAF). If you have paid the SSAF already, then you don't need to take any action. Australian citizens and permanent humanitarian visa holders are eligible to apply for a SA-HELP loan, which allows you to defer paying the SSAF. All other students will need to pay the SSAF directly to Flinders. If you would like to defer the SSAF, you need to complete a SA-HELP assistance form by the topic(s) Census date (if you haven't done this already). The Census date for Semester 2 topics is Friday 30 August (see article above for more information). For details on how to complete the form see the SA HELP loan webpage. |

Powerful international student stories on show The Flinders international student community is diverse, bringing together a wide range of experiences, challenges and successes. In the Frame: International Stories of Empowerment is an exhibition by Flinders International and Flinders University Art Museum. It brings together stories of strength and inspiration from international students. To view the exhibition visit the Studio (behind Grind & Press café map ref J10) between 9am and 5pm weekdays. R U Ok? Day - 12 September R U Ok? Day is Thursday 12 September. The day is about inspiring and empowering people to connect with others and start a conversation with anyone who may be struggling. You don't need to be an expert to reach out - just a good friend and a great listener. There will be events happening on campus at Bedford Park and Sturt on the day to help encourage meaningful conversation, with free fruit, coffee, tea, games and music. Want to study what you love? The Bachelor of Letters allows you to follow your interests and aspirations, while enhancing your career prospects, by undertaking another area of study within your existing degree. Get a second bachelor level degree for only an extra year of study. It's a chance to study topics that might be out of the general area of your main degree such as innovation and enterprise, creative writing and more. Read more about the Bachelor of Letters. |

Free lunches for Indigenous students The team at Yunggorendi are providing free lunches for indigenous students during Semester 2. The next lunch is on Monday 2 September from 12noon to 2pm at The Tjilbruke student lounge on level 3 of the Yunggorendi building (map ref J11). Swipe card access is required for access to level 3. New accommodation for Indigenous students Affordable accommodation in a new and safe city location is available for Indigenous students aged between 18-26 who have relocated to Adelaide from a regional or remote location. Ph.D. Scholarship Opportunity A Ph.D. scholarship worth $27,082 p.a. for three years is available to join the ‘Teaching How to Learn' team in College of Education, Psychology and Social Work. The project involves the design and implementation of interventions to increase teacher capacity to support active student learning in STEM. Prospective students should have an educational psychology or STEM education background, good communication skills and an interest in student-centred teacher practices. They will also be required to have (or to acquire) advanced statistical skills for the analysis of complex data using multilevel modelling techniques. Read more. |

You're invited to a free trivia night The Australasian Society for the Study of Brain Impairment (ASSBI) is hosting their first Trivia Night event on Tuesday 3 September at 7pm. The ASSBI is a multidisciplinary society dedicated to improving the quality of life of people with brain injuries and their families. Free Mindful Yoga classes at OasisYoga is an ancient movement meditation practice that can assist in developing mindfulness skills, a feeling of calm and more control over your emotions and reactions. It's a powerful tool that can assist in improving focus.
The Mindful Yoga class at Oasis, taught by a qualified Yoga instructor, is open to all students and is suitable for all ages, physical abilities and fitness levels. There is a specific focus on mindfulness skills, relaxation and gentle movements, suitable for stress management. LANTITE workshops – get prepared
LANTITE (the Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education students) is an Australian Government test that teacher education students need to complete to graduate, and work in the teaching profession. The next LANTITE tests will be held from 8 to 17 November. The Flinders LANTITE Preparation Program is designed to help you prepare for the test, and includes workshops, resources and opportunities for individual support. Student wellbeing initiative in partnership with SAHMRI
EPSW and the South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute's (SAHMRI) Wellbeing and Resilience Centre are providing students with access to an online interactive wellbeing and resilience platform. EPSW students have been emailed a link to access Complete Mental Health - a free web-based program that provides personalised tips and techniques to build and improve mental health and wellbeing. If this is the second time you have participated, the platform will provide you with information about your change in mental health status over time. All personal information and responses will be de-identified and remain confidential. |

4 x $10,000 scholarships: chemical, mechanical & electrical engineering
With the generous support of Nyrstar, the Playford Trust is offering up to four scholarships in 2020 to students entering their third-year of chemical, mechanical or electrical engineering. Valued at $10,000 per year for two years, the scholarships involve paid eight week work placements at Nyrstar's Port Pirie Smelter over the summer holidays. Recipients will also get the opportunity to work on technical projects to solve real problems and apply university knowledge in an industrial setting. Recently, the Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CAANZ) Achiever Programme and networking event was held at Alere. Accounting professionals and recent graduates presented about their experiences as former ‘Achievers' and the opportunities, skills and insights gained from their involvement in the programme (which includes work placement over the summer break). While applications for the next programme open in 2020, there's plenty you can do to get yourself ready in the meantime. Barossa Valley day trip – this SaturdayInternational Student Services (ISS) invites all international students (and their families) on a day trip to the world-famous Barossa Valley wine region this Saturday, 31 August ($35 per person). Along with visiting beautiful wineries, you'll also get to experience the Whispering Wall and see World's Biggest Rocking Horse. The bus leaves from the Registry Steps (outside the Bedford Park Hub map ref K10) at 9am and returns at 5.30pm.
