Essential compliance

You need a number of compulsory clearances and to undertake compulsory training before being allocated a placement.

You will not be eligible for placement until deemed fully compliant.

Types of placement

A criminal justice honours placement can consist of one or more of the following components:

Aims/objectives and/or research questions: setting up of succinct key research points for a study (would involve reading of key literature).
Methodology: setting up or execution of previously devised methodological tools.
Literature review: review and writing up of key studies in an area according to authors/themes/or other as per request.
Analysis of empirical or other evidence / update of Literature Review conducted previously by another researcher.
Setting up tools to evaluate a project or execution of evaluation.

As a general guideline, students will have the capacity to satisfactorily execute only one of the above components within the 70-hour placement.

Time requirements for placement

You must complete a minimum of 70 hours on placement and attend 4 x 1 hour seminars.

Options for sourcing a placement

Our College has numerous partnerships with industry who provide student placements and the WIL team will match students as best as possible to suit your needs and the needs of the organisation.

a private (non-government) criminal justice agency
a government or semi-government department, which interacts significantly with the criminal justice system, or
a community service provider that manages offenders, victims or any individuals affected by crime, or
any other organisation, department, or office which the criminal justice program placement coordinator approves as providing a suitable criminal justice placement experience.
