Admission requirements

The minimum requirements for consideration for entry to all undergraduate courses are specified in detail in the University Entry Requirements.

Course aims

This course provides students with the opportunity to develop broad knowledge and competencies to facilitate careers in business-related fields. Students will be encouraged and supported to develop transferable interpersonal and professional capabilities, including the capability to be reflective, self-evaluating and critically engaged as well as to lead and manage people and projects. There is a particular focus on application of knowledge, competencies and capabilities to diverse and global sports management context. Students will apply their knowledge and competencies to a broad range of sports management practices. This specialization will cover sports and recreational content and application of management and business in various key aspects of sports with emphasis on enterprising, digital and leadership knowledge and skills. The unique aspect of this degree will be the curriculum that covers Management, Strategy, Leadership, Psychology, Heath and Physical Activities, providing students with all-round knowledge in the area and consequently, preparing them current work environment.

Learning outcomes

Students successfully completing this course will be able to:

  • Critically apply broad theoretical and technical accounting, finance, economic, marketing, human resources and sports management knowledge and skills to inform sports management planning
  • Analyse sports management and marketing practices using theoretical and technical knowledge of regulatory, governance, compliance and legal requirements
  • Apply theoretical knowledge, technical competencies and critical judgement to provide solutions to routine sports management problems
  • Explain the impact of socially responsible, ethical, economic, regulatory, sustainability, governance and global perspectives on equitable sport and physical activity outcomes for the wider community as well as leadership in planning and practices in sports management
  • Manage time, self and tasks effectively as an individual and to collaborate with a diverse team
  • Motivate individuals to engage, learn, value and participate in a diverse range of sport and physical activity settings
  • Use computer-based information systems or applications to solve or document business problems.

Program of study

To qualify for the Bachelor of Business (Advanced Leadership and Sports Management) a student must complete 108 units with a grade of P or better or NGP in each topic, according to the program of study below, and the maintenance of a GPA of at least 5.5. Students who have a GPA below 5.5 at the end of two consecutive semesters will be supported to transfer to the Bachelor of Business (Sports Management). No more than 45 units of Level 1 topics is to be included in the 108 unit

Students must complete:

  • 67.5 units of core topics
  • 36 units of specialisation topics
  • 4.5 units of BUSN option topics

Students who wish to graduate with a Bachelor of Business (Advanced Leadership and Sports Management) will be required to undertake a 36-unit specialisation in Sports Management.

Except with the permission of the Dean (Education), the course must be completed within 10 consecutive years. Failure to do so may constitute evidence of unsatisfactory progress. Where permission is given to complete in more than 10 consecutive years, there may be a requirement for additional coursework in order to ensure relevant and up-to-date knowledge.
