Assumed knowledge
High standard of personal literacy and basic computer literacy. Design and drawing fundamentals and experience in a variety of visual media.
Topic description
In this topic the emphasis will be on students developing an informed and self-critical approach to art making. Projects will reflect current issues in local and international arts practice. The topic will culminate in an exhibition of student work.
Educational aims
This topic aims to:
- Provide students with the opportunity to investigate and develop their understanding and skills in a chosen media
- Provide students with the opportunity to develop an understanding of the issues and concepts in the visual arts
- Introduce students to contemporary issues in visual art
- Provide students with the experience of planning, promoting and presenting an exhibition of their work
Expected learning outcomes
On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:
- Identify issues and concepts in visual art
- Demonstrate the development of their skills in a chosen media
- Demonstrate their ability to critically analyse visual art works using informed criteria
- Demonstrate their ability to work collaboratively to produce a successful exhibition
