Topic description

This topic builds on preliminary biblical Hebrew studies by increasing the scope of Hebrew scripture to be translated and by a more detailed examination of the structure of the language. A wider range of lexicographical aids is introduced with an increased knowledge of grammar and syntax of the Hebrew language.

Educational aims

In this topic students will:

  • Increase their skills in and knowledge of Biblical Hebrew
  • Develop their skills in dealing with grammatical and syntactical knowledge
  • Develop their skills in dealing translation as a basis for exegesis of the text
Expected learning outcomes
On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:

  1. Translate selected Hebrew texts, with the assistance of dictionaries
  2. Employ critical apparatus in the BHS edition of the text
  3. Develop skills in exegesis of the Hebrew Scriptures
