Topic description

This topic involves a small research project that students undertake as part of their Masters degree.

Students will be introduced to designing and conducting an individual research project in an area of their choice under the supervision of an academic staff member. The outcome of the project will be presented orally as well as in written form.

Educational aims

This topic aims to provide students with an insight into how research in planned and executed. Under the direct supervision of an academic staff member, the student will plan and execute an individual research project in an area of science. In addition the students will gain experience in the written and oral communication of their project.

Expected learning outcomes
On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:

  1. Have obtained an appreciation of how a research is prepared and conducted
  2. Gained insight of how scientific principles are applied to solve problems
  3. Operate laboratory equipment in a safe and effective manner
  4. Clearly and understandably present results in both written and oral form
