Computer models designed to analyse processes operating in space and time are useful tools for understanding how variables (e.g., human, plant, animal) respond to changes in their environment. Similarly, geostatistics is a popular technique for measuring the level of spatial dependence in data. Students are exposed to a range of geostatistical and spatial and temporal modelling and approaches as they apply to human, ecological and environmental problems. Lectures provide a theoretical background to the topic content, and computer-based GIS labs provide students with practical experience in these techniques.
This topic aims to provide students with a good understanding of spatial and temporal geostatistical and modelling approaches, as they apply to human, ecological and environmental problems.
