Topic description

This topic provides an opportunity for students to further develop their practical psychological knowledge and skills in the real world. Students will complete an external placement in a professional psychology workplace. The emphasis is on preparing students for their sixth year internship. Students will be supervised by registered psychologists with Psychology Board of Australia supervisor accreditation.

Educational aims

This topic aims to:

  • Equip students with practical skills in interviewing, assessment and evidence based interventions under professional supervision
  • Develop an awareness of ethical, professional and cultural issues in the practice of psychology
Expected learning outcomes
On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:

  1. Demonstrate competence in interviewing and assessment
  2. Develop, implement and monitor evidence-based interventions based on evolving case conceptualisation
  3. Communicate and collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary professionals and support staff in a service setting
  4. Engage in self-reflection and critically evaluate their own professional practice and competence
  5. Critically evaluate professional psychology practices based on the science-practitioner model
