Topic description

This topic demonstrates the relevance of psychology to real-world problems and endeavours, and addresses issues related to the practice of psychology. The topic illustrates the usefulness of psychological research in a range of contexts (e.g. health, forensic, clinical) and provides examples of the progression from basic research and theory to application. It also describes theoretical and empirical bases for the construction, use and interpretation of some commonly used cognitive and personality assessments, and covers some evidence-based psychological interventions.

Educational aims

This topic aims to:

  • Demonstrate the relevance of Psychology to real-world human problems and endeavours
  • Illustrate the nexus between theory/research and applications, i.e. to provide examples of the progression from research and theory to application
  • Provide tution in some practical aspects of assessment and intervention techiques
Expected learning outcomes
