Topic description
This topic will introduce students to leadership, education, and advocacy in health promotion collaborative practice. Students will learn about models of leadership in physiotherapy, and how to recognise the need for, and implement strategies to manage their own physical and mental health, and resilience. The focus for learning activities will be enhancing students’ knowledge of the role of physiotherapy relating to public health priorities, chronic condition self-management, and the benefits of physical activity in the prevention and management of chronic disease. In this topic, students will learn about inclusive, culturally-responsive and client-centred models of practice, with specific modules focussing on health promotion in culturally diverse and disadvantaged populations. Students will undertake an in-depth health promotion project designed to optimise clients’ participation in everyday life. This project will be disseminated as part of an educational poster presentation, therefore providing students with skills in leading the education of others.
Educational aims
The aim of this topic is to introduce students to concepts of collaborative practice and leadership with a specific emphasis on public health priorities and health promotion within a project. This topic aims to provide students with an insight into issues which health care professionals currently face in the delivery of a quality-based service within a diverse and changing healthcare environment.
Expected learning outcomes
At the completion of this topic, students are expected to be able to:
