This topic focusses on neurological disorders and will augment student understanding of normal movement analysis and clinical reasoning and introduce new therapeutic skills appropriate for the assessment and management of people with neurological disorders across the lifespan. Analysis of evidence-based practice of neurological physiotherapy will enable an evaluative approach to physiotherapy practice. Living with a long term neurological condition presents a diversity of symptoms and experiences, which require close collaboration between services to effectively support the patient's health as well as social and psychological needs. This topic aims to broaden the knowledge of the role of the multidisciplinary team in a range of practice settings. Students will continue to develop assessment and management skills of people with a range of neurological conditions, taking into account the psychological and social effects such disorders can have on both the individual and their carers. Students will be encouraged to consider personal factors, environmental factors and activity limitations of their patients to establish patient goals, formulate assessment, prioritise treatment and re-evaluate using appropriate outcome measures.
