Practical Work; Clinical Skills Examination (40%); Written Examination (60%).

Continued development of clinical knowledge and skill will occur in this topic, with a focus on cardiorespiratory disorders. Analysis of evidence based practice of cardiorespiratory physiotherapy will enable an evaluative approach to physiotherapy practice. The multidisciplinary approach to management of people with cardiorespiratory disorders will be explored. The clinical application of knowledge and skills is a major feature of this topic.

This topic aims to establish specific knowledge and skills related to physiotherapy for cardiorespiratory conditions.

On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:

Demonstrate knowledge of normal cardiac and respiratory anatomy and physiology
Demonstrate knowledge of selected pathologies affecting the cardiovascular and respiratory systems in humans and their clinical presentations
Demonstrate the ability to plan and implement efficient, effective, culturally responsive and client-centred physiotherapy assessment, with regards to clients with cardiorespiratory and vascular conditions
Demonstrate the planning of safe and effective physiotherapy management using evidence based practice to inform decision making for clients with cardiorespiratory and vascular conditions
Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of interventions and make modifications to treatment plans as necessary in consultation with the client
Demonstrate an understanding of inclusive, collaborative, culturally responsive and client-centred practice in clients with cardiorespiratory or vascular conditions
Demonstrate an ability to reflect on own practice
