PHCA9201 Organisations and Evidence: Knowledge Translation and Exchange

This topic examines how organisational culture and structures constrain and support the use of evidence and research in health service and public health policy and practice. Students will apply organisational change theories to understand the barriers and enablers to using evidence to change organisations and influence policy and practice. Knowledge Translation and Exchange (KTE) theories are used to enable students to understand how to build in KTE principles to doctoral research. Students are introduced to the professional skills necessary to improve the use of evidence in policy and practice.

This topic aims to:

• Enhance understanding of the barriers and enablers for organisations using evidence in health and public health
• Develop skills in analysis of how to lead change organisational structures, culture and practices to increase the use of evidence
• Develop advanced understandings of how to synthesise theories of Knowledge Exchange and Transfer with research methods to improve the transfer of research findings to policy and practice
• Develop communication and advocacy skills to lead the translation of evidence into policy and practice
