Topic description

In this topic, students will explore core aspects of providing care in the emergency care setting. They will examine the professionalism of emergency nurses and current trends in this area. Whilst undertaking professional experience placement in the emergency care setting, students will develop their understanding of concepts which underpin emergency care nursing practice including; patient assessment in the emergency care setting, triage, trauma and disaster preparedness.

On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:

  1. Critically analyse and synthesize researched evidence on current local and global trends that effect emergency nursing care
  2. Self-evaluate competence and knowledge, demonstrating ability to make judgements about future learning needs
  3. Identify and plan the appropriate clinical interventions, assessment and management of patients presenting to emergency
  4. Propose evidence-based care that is in accordance with contemporary practice and policies in the emergency setting
