In this topic students will develop specialised knowledge for the assessment and management of adult patients in a high acuity surgical nursing environment through critical exploration of evidence-based principles and practices in nursing.

This topic aims for students to develop specialised knowledge in the assessment and management of adult patients in a high acuity surgical nursing environment through critical exploration of evidence-based principles and practices in nursing.
Expected learning outcomes
On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:
- Demonstrate advanced specialised knowledge of aetiology and pathophysiology in the assessment and management of patients who require high acuity surgical care
- Evaluate and apply strategies for the assessment and management of pain in high acuity surgical environments
- Critique approaches for the assessment and management of wounds, intravenous and arterial access lines and wound drainage tubes in high acuity surgical patients
- Identify, synthesise and utilise the best available evidence to inform practice, in the context of high acuity surgical nursing care
- Apply advanced communication skills while working within a multidisciplinary team in high acuity surgical nursing environment
