This topic addresses the principles of pharmacology and toxicology. It is divided into four modules that provide a theoretical and conceptional framework that underpins the study of drugs and chemicals in humans; (i) how drugs and toxic chemicals are handled by the body (pharmaco/toxicokinetics), (ii) what they do to the body (pharmaco/toxicodynamics), (iii) how they cause adverse effects, and (iv) the processes of drug discovery, development, regulation, and risk assessment.
This topic aims to provide students with an understanding of the theoretical and conceptional framework that underpins the use of drugs and the toxicity of xenobiotics.
