Topic description
In this topic emphasis is placed on oral-aural comprehension, as well as on understanding and use of both spoken and written Modern Greek.
Educational aims
This topic aims to:

  • review and expand Modern Greek grammatical structures and vocabulary acquired previously

  • recognise, reproduce and describe grammatical, syntactic, lexical and phonetic patterns

  • produce various complex text types in Modern Greek

  • select, distinguish and understand various genres of text in Modern Greek, and particularly Modern Greek literature

  • enhance communicative competence through participation in activities involving group or pair interaction

  • expose students to independent and collaborative learning and to language learning skill development
Expected learning outcomes
On completing this topic students will be able to:

  • identify the main points of clear standard speech and communicate in speech and writing on a range of familiar topics using simple language

  • analyse and understand different text types and to produce complex written and spoken texts

  • develop both aural and oral skills through a variety of activities

  • recognise and use grammatical, syntactical, lexical and phonetic structures acquired throughout the semester
