This topic provides students with an overview of the context within which hospitals receive and consume financial resources, international perspectives on cost drivers, funding allocation models specifically the case mix model, preparing the annual hospital budget, analysing and interpreting budget reports and financial statements, internal financial controls, hospital performance indicators, and capital investment decision making.

This topic aims to develop and widen students' knowledge and understanding of western approaches to hospital financial management. The topic covers both the wider context within which hospital funding is allocated and managed, and financial management techniques at the practical level.
