Topic description
This topic explores exercise physiology principles related to physical activity and physical education. Students will participate in both laboratory and field tests of health related fitness.
Educational aims
This topic aims to provide students with an opportunity to:

  • investigate the exercise physiology concepts, applications and issues related to physical activity and health related fitness
  • investigate basic human anatomy and physiology
  • explore the human body's ability to perform physical work and the body's ability to improve its physiological capabilities
  • use exercise physiology equipment to develop skills in measurement and evaluation
Expected learning outcomes
It is expected that on completion of this topic student will be able to:

  • describe the key physiological processes that occur during human movement
  • explain how the physiological processes that occur during exercise training that result in improved physiological capabilities of the human body
  • use exercise physiology equipment to assess an individual's level of health-related fitness and use that information to prescribe a safe and effective exercise program
