Topic description

The topic requires students to define a research question and formulate a response by collecting and evaluating information to produce a written paper of the results placing the findings in the context of scholarly and industry understanding of the topic. The research project is to be determined and conducted under the supervision of an academic staff member.

Educational aims

This topic aims to provide students with an opportunity to develop foundational research skills through the development of a research question, selection of an appropriate research methodology and completion of a supervised research project in their area of enquiry.

Expected learning outcomes
On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:

  1. Design an original research question and relate it to the relevant scholarly or practice-based literature
  2. Design a research approach that is appropriate to the theoretical area to address a selected research question
  3. Formulate a response to the selected research question by collecting, analysing and interpreting data
  4. Produce a concise research output according to scholarly and industry practice
