Through an integrated teaching approach this topic enables pre-service teachers to reflect critically on the role of creative expression in society. Pre-service teachers will investigate, analyse and synthesise the current research in relation to creativity in the early childhood years. The topic provides the opportunity for pre-service teachers to generate and communicate complex ideas regarding the importance of creative expression. Pre-service teachers will evaluate, practice and communicate a variety of appropriate teaching methodologies and resources in the 5 areas of the expressive arts. Current curriculum frameworks will be critically analysed as pre-service teachers apply in-depth knowledge to their long and short-term planning for rich, integrated learning opportunities, inclusive teaching practices, and the embedded use of information and computer technology.
