Topic description
Supervised research on an approved subject relating to international development, leading to the writing of a research paper of around 9,000 words. The research paper should provide evidence of the student's ability to collect and evaluate information; construct, test and defend an argument; and critically examine theories and empirical trends in the area of academic enquiry. The supervisor of the research paper will not be an examiner.
Educational aims
This topic aims to:
  • Provide an opportunity for MID students to engage in supervised academic and professional analysis of issues and problems in international development
  • inform students about the state of the academic literature and international practice with respect to a select range of issues
  • encourage advanced-level academic argument
  • further develop students' skills in academic research, bibliographic analysis and professional writing
Expected learning outcomes
On successful completion of this topic students should be able to:
