Topic description

The purpose of this topic is for Honours students who will separately complete a creative artefact for their thesis to also produce an accompanying exegesis. Students will reflect on the theoretical and creative influences on their creative work, with a focus on practice-led research and other methodologies. Students will have the opportunity to focus on particular aspects of exegetical practice that meet their individual needs and focus.

Educational aims

This topic aims to:

  • Develop student capacities for verbal and written communication of creative research including methodologies, theories and outcomes reflecting on an initial research proposition
  • Provide opportunities for students to reflect on their creative development
  • Develop students' critical thinking in relation to their individual creative practice
  • Develop students' abilities to synthesise relevant theory from a practice-led project
  • Deepen students' knowledge of methodologies across the creative arts beyond their personal creative practice
  • Develop students' awareness of scholarly conventions, intellectual integrity, and ethical considerations in practice led research
  • Communicate issues related to creative-led research both verbally and in writing
Expected learning outcomes
On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:

  1. Sustain an exegetical project to resolution, including planning, problem-solving and reflection on its relationship to research aims, and developmental milestones
  2. Appraise and analyse their creative practice, within the scope of a specific research design
  3. Evaluate the research outcomes and appropriateness of the original research design
  4. Communicate issues related to creative-led research both verbally and in writing
