This topic introduces students to, and provides an overview of, concepts, practices and issues associated with Human Resource Management (HRM). Key areas to be covered include: the roles of HRM, strategic HRM, HR planning, the law and HRM, job analysis and design including work-life balance, recruitment and selection, performance management, remuneration and training and development. The topic also provides a foundation upon which students may undertake specialised courses in areas including Human Resource Planning, Recruitment and Selection (BUSN2032), Training and Development (BUSN2030) and Reward and Performance Management (BUSN3032).
This topic introduces students to, and provides an overview of, concepts, practices and functions associated with Human Resource management (HRM). Students will be expected to develop an understanding of:
the roles of HRM
job analysis and design
the legal context of HRM
recruitment and selection
training and development
managing workforce diversity

Students completing this topic should be able to describe and discuss the roles, functions and practices associated with Human Resource Management(HRM), including strategic HRM, Human Resource planning, job analysis and design, the legal context of HRM, recruitment and selection, remuneration, training and development, and managing workforce diversity.
