Job analysis; channels and methods of recruitment; shortlisting and selection processes; reliability and validity of selection processes
Educational aims
This topic aims to equip students with the knowledge and skills required to advise on and participate in recruitment and selection activities in a range of organisational contexts.
Expected learning outcomes
On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:
- Describe the nature and strategic importance of human resource planning, recruitment and selection to the achievement of an organisation's business objectives
- Perform a job analysis in preparation for filling a vacancy or newly created position
- Develop appropriate selection criteria
- Design recruitment materials and select appropriate channels to attract staff
- Participate in the selection process: shortlisting; interviewing
- Identify and explain the value and limitations of psychometric testing
- Discuss the importance of committing to equal opportunities
