Topic description

The aim of this topic is to provide students with a solid foundation in the fundamentals of sustainable resource management, particularly in connection with 'triple bottom line' issues in organisational planning and implementation. The topic deals with the basic fundamentals of the management of resources impacting social, environmental, ethical and economic performance relevant to an organisation's sustainable practice.

Educational aims

This topic aims to provide students with a solid understanding of the fundamentals of sustainable resource management, in particular, the basic skills required to deal with environmental issues from an economic perspective.

Expected learning outcomes
On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:

  1. Identify environmental economic problems, the reasons for their existence, and the economic instruments applicable to their resolution. You must demonstrate that you are adequately conversant with environmental economics data (in particular its strengths and weaknesses), national accounting statistics, and alternative economic indicators. By combining an understanding of the fundamentals of environmental economics and the knowledge of environmental indicators, you will be expected to be able to identify appropriate policy solutions to environmental problems
