Topic description

In this topic, students will undertake an individual structured program of study in an overseas university or research organisation. On completion of the placement the students will complete a written report and oral presentation summarising their activities. This topic is designed to meet the requirements of mobility grants awarded under schemes such as the Australian government's New Colombo Plan. Placements will be dependent on the availability of suitable international hosts and mobility schemes and need to be arranged with the topic coordinator prior to enrolment.

Educational aims

This topic aims to:

  • Allow the students to gain a deeper understanding of their host country and its culture
  • Further develop a student's practical and theoretical knowledge in an area related to their degree program
  • Provide students with the opportunity to develop ongoing international relationships
Expected learning outcomes
On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:

  1. Articulate how commercial, economic, social, cultural, political, legal, industrial and/or environmental issues affect the way in which professionals would operate overseas or with overseas organisations
  2. Demonstrate the ability to operate effectively in an international workplace
  3. Demonstrate awareness of major social and political issues relating to the country visited
  4. Demonstrate enhancement of their practical and theoretical knowledge in the area of their degree
