AUDI9402 Clinical Audiology 3

This topic involves clinical practicum in its entirety. The main component will be the first of two clinical block placements of 4 days per week for 5 weeks. The placements in metropolitan, regional and remote audiology services will be organised by staff.

The aims of the topic are:

• The development of clinical skills, clinical measurement competency and the application of knowledge and evidence to the practice of clinical audiology
• For students to acquire basic understanding of management issues related to the practice of audiology, including aspects of health service delivery, the administrative requirements of different sectors, management and staffing issues, funding arrangements and clinical governance, the physical environment of the service and the relationship between the service and the community in socio-demographic terms

2. Review clients' referral information and determine the implications for the session
4. Identify and undertake the appropriate interview and/or assessment instruments or techniques
6. Establish a working relationship with the client
8. Evaluate critically the results of basic audiological tests and procedures
10. Identify unsatisfactory or missing results/information and take steps towards rectifying that
12. Integrate information obtained from various sources and to formulate a valid audiological diagnosis in relation to more common types of hearing impairment/disorders
14. Plan intervention/management using the framework of impairment, disability and handicap and responsiveness to the individual's views and capacity
16. Convey clinical information, including the audiological diagnosis, in both oral and written forms with accuracy, clarity and sensitivity and in keeping with a clinic’s protocols
18. Provide hearing rehabilitation in a clinical setting to individuals and adults, including selection, fitting and evaluation of hearing aids and other assistive listening devices
20. Maintain accurate clinical records
