Topic description

The topic will provide students with the theoretical and practical training necessary for practising archaeology underwater. Students will develop an in-depth knowledge of the basics of underwater archaeological techniques including the underwater environment, specialised equipment, search and survey, site formation processes, recording, and excavation. Students should expect to learn the basic methods in identifying and recording underwater archaeological sites as well as the latest advances in underwater technology.

  • Provide students with the theoretical and practical training necessary for conducting archaeology underwater
  • Introduce students to the basics of underwater archaeological techniques
  • Present students with opportunities to apply their practical and interpretive skills during problem-solving exercises
